We use professional-grade equipment to ensure the job is done right the first time.

Weekly vs. Biweekly Lawn Mowing

At Elite Maintenance Group, we believe that maintaining a healthy lawn requires cutting the grass to a height of 1/3 inch, which is best achieved with weekly mowing. However, during periods of little rain and no irrigation, it may be necessary to switch to mowing every two weeks. In such cases, our technicians will use their discretion to determine whether or not to mow that week.

Trimming

String trimming gives your lawn edges a nice finish. Trimming will be around all landscapes, sidewalks, fences, posts, Tree rings, and driveways.

Blowing

Blowing is the last step of our weekly lawn mowing service. Blowing is performed with high-velocity backpack blowers, clearing off all of the lawn mowing and trimming debris from your sidewalks, patios, and driveway to give you a picture-perfect property when finished.

Lawn Care Services

Elite Maintenance Group offers a variety of lawn maintenance services, such as fertilization, core aeration, and weed control. These processes are key to maintaining a vital and healthy lawn.

Fertilization

Fertilization feeds your lawn with much-needed nutrients, such as nitrates, which give you a vibrant color that lasts all season long.

Weeds Control

Is your lawn no longer the deep, dark green it used to be? Are unwanted weeds taking over? Our treatment program can help restore your lawn and flower beds. With our weed control program, we can eliminate weeds that steal moisture and detract from your lawn’s appeal.

Fertilizer Packages

Elite Maintenance Group can improve the health and fullness of your lawn with our expertly designed lawn
fertilization and weed control treatment packages. Adding fertilizer to your lawn helps maintain the important nutrients needed to maintain a healthy root system and color for the best-looking yard in the neighborhood! Common Lawn Weeds
Perennial weeds like White Clover, Plantain, Dandelions, and Ground Ivy are often found in lawns. These weeds have strong root systems that compete with your grass for nutrients and water, causing stress and thinning of the grassroots. This can lead to disease and pest problems, as well as affecting the overall appearance of your lawn. We offer an affordable weed control program that includes fertilizing applications in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Additional spot spray applications can be scheduled upon request.

Creeping Charlie Treatment
Elite Maintenance offers a 3-application weed control treatment program that has been proven to control 98% of Creeping Charlie weed. The program involves 1 application every two weeks over a six-week period. After 7 days following the first application, you will start to see the first signs of the weed’s eradication. The herbicide works by targeting the plant’s photosynthetic process, essentially depriving the weed of important carbohydrates, nutrients, and water necessary for cell growth. Results can be seen in before and after pictures.

Core Lawn Aeration & Overseeding Service

Elite Maintenance provides core aeration and overseeding to ensure a thick and attractive lawn. Core aeration has several benefits for your lawn, such as improving oxygen and moisture access to the roots, leading to deeper root growth.

Core Aeration Service
Elite Maintenance offers full-service lawn aeration using commercial-grade core aerating machines at an affordable price. Aeration is recommended at least once, but preferably twice a year in combination with fertilizing and regular grass cutting. The small holes created in the lawn through core aeration allow new grass seed to grow, resulting in optimal lawn thickness and quality. It’s essential to aerate before spreading grass seed because seeds placed on top of a lawn without aeration are unlikely to grow.

Core aeration involves the removal of soil cores from the lawn, relieving soil compaction and promoting healthy turf.

Overseeding
Seeding and aerating go hand in hand to create a lush lawn. The holes and soil plugs from aeration provide an ideal bed for the seed to germinate. Seeding should be done at the same time as aeration. Watering helps wash the grass seed into the holes created by double pass core aeration, and as the soil cores break down, the soil fills the holes, aiding in seed establishment.

Visible improvement in your lawn can be expected within 4-6 weeks. It is recommended to aerate and overseed every other year for typical lawns or every year for shaded or thin lawns, lawns damaged by pets, or experiencing heavy foot traffic. Late August to Mid-September is the best time for aeration and overseeding, but early spring also works well.

In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, core aeration reduces soil compaction, increases water, oxygen, and nutrient availability to the grass roots, and prevents thatch issues in the lawn.

Fall Aeration Service

Lawn aeration helps prevent soil compaction from negatively impacting the health of your grass and has a significant impact on building and supporting deep, healthy root systems. Our lawns are prone to soil compaction issues that arise from normal usage, such as mowing, walking, or engaging in other activities.

How Often Should You Aerate Your Lawn?
One of the best ways to maintain your lawn in great shape is to aerate it every year. Many of our customers alternate between our double aeration & overseeding service and a fall aeration each year, which is an excellent plan to maintain the nicest lawn possible. If you are already getting a double pass aeration and overseeding service this year, then adding an additional fall aeration service is not necessary.

When is the Best Time to Aerate?
The best time of the season to aerate your lawn in Northwest Indiana and Chicago Land is late August through early October. Spring is the second best time of year to aerate.

Taking Care of Your Lawn After a Treatment
After applying fertilizer and/or weed control treatment, refrain from watering your lawn for 24 hours. You will notice a small sign in your lawn, and you will receive an email or text message informing you of the treatment applied and providing instructions on how to care for your lawn afterward. For optimal results, water your lawn 2-3 times per week for one to two weeks, starting 48 hours after the lawn treatments. Adding nutrients to your lawn accelerates the lawn’s metabolic processes. The grass will need increased water to absorb and utilize the nutrients to grow thicker and greener. Regular watering will prevent your lawn from drying out after an application and enhance the effectiveness of the treatments!

Topdressing
Topdressing involves spreading a thin layer of topsoil across your entire lawn. This process can help to smooth out bumpy lawns without the need for regrading. It is a great way to level a bumpy lawn and can also improve sandy or clay-heavy soils without causing harm to the existing turf. Different soil mixes are used depending on the specific goals. For leveling a lawn and improving drainage, a golf course top dressing mix is used, which typically consists of approximately 80% sand and 20% peat/compost mix. These sandy mixes, originally developed for golf courses, are ideal for leveling lawns because they stay firm after application, similar to the firm and smooth sand at a beach’s surf zone. Unlike black dirt, sand settles very little and does not become mucky when wet, thus providing better drainage compared to black dirt.

Sodding Your Lawn
Sodding instantly gives you a thick and green lawn. It may be more expensive than seeding, but it has clear advantages. Sodded lawns are immediately green, and kids and pets can start using them within a week or two of installation. Seeded lawns can take about 8 weeks to grow in. If your lawn is seeded, the bare soil can become messy from constant watering, making it inconvenient for use.

Some customers opt to sod the front yard and seed the backyard to manage costs. Sodding also works well on hills and sloped areas where erosion can be a problem when trying to establish seed. Sod staples can help prevent sod from sliding down slopes.

Sod Growth in Shade
Sod is composed of grass types that thrive in sunny areas, primarily Kentucky bluegrass. We advise using sod in areas with full sun to partial shade and avoiding heavily shaded areas. Sod that is installed in full shade will degrade within a year or two. For areas with heavy shade, we suggest using a seed mix that is tolerant to shade instead of sod. If using sod in shaded areas is preferred, it’s advisable to plan for overseeding with shade-tolerant grasses in the future.
